OHIO STATE PARK LODGES, March 30, 2012 – “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” is an accurate proverb, especially when it comes to meetings-weary employees. But there is hope for “Jacks” as well as “Jills” meeting at Ohio State Park Lodges. All five lodges operated by concessioner Xanterra Parks & Resorts offer a wide array of team building activities developed to spark energy and creativity through fun and sometimes even philanthropy.

“Not only do team building activities help participants to stay engaged, they also get to have fun and build relationships with colleagues, something that doesn’t always happen in a typical meeting environment,” said Dianna Rom, regional director of sales for Ohio State Park Lodges and a regular meeting attendee. “There is also a creative component to many team building activities, and participants are often pleasantly surprised to discover a side to their co-workers that might not be apparent in a day-to-day office setting.”

The five lodges have professional meeting planners who coordinate the team building activities with a variety of Ohio-based team building companies including StudioThink, The Nuhop Center for Experiential Learning and The Impact Fun Company.

The lodges are located throughout the state and within an easy drive of major cities in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The lodges are Deer Creek State Park Lodge near Columbus, Salt Fork State Park Lodge in central Ohio near Cambridge, Mohican State Park Lodge in north central Ohio near Loudonville, Punderson Manor State Park Lodge in northeastern Ohio near Newbury and Maumee Bay State Park Lodge in northwestern Ohio near Toledo.

All five lodges have expansive meeting space and spacious grounds for outdoor activities. At Deer Creek State Park Lodge, for example, meeting participants have used the lawn surrounding the lodge building as their workshop for building “Playhouses for Tots,” which provides all of the building materials, instructions and thematic suggestions. The teams of up to six participants choose roles, divide tasks and work together to create a custom backyard playhouse which is then donated to a child.

Mohican State Park Lodge, situated in the lush woods of the Mohican Forest, features an outdoor ropes course, and The Nuhop Center trainers help participants traverse across rope bridges, hang from swings and travel across missing-link walkways, all with the goal of encouraging participants to test their personal limits and have a positive experience. Mohican is the only one of the five lodges where the high ropes course is available.

Salt Fork State Park Lodge is situated in woods with an extensive trail system, and it is the perfect location to take the “Survivor Challenge.” In a set period of time, small groups compete against other teams by using hand-held global positioning systems (GPS) to find geocaches. The caches are small containers hidden in remote corners of the park that contain the coordinates for the next cache.

Since it is less than an hour’s drive from an amusement park with some of the best roller coasters in the world – Cedar Point – Maumee Bay State Park Lodge is a fitting location for a roller coaster-building activity. Teams design and build roller coasters using a variety of materials.

And Punderson Manor State Park Lodge, with its historic Tudor-style mansion building, is an excellent place to stage an elegant Casino Night.
