Suite Dreams: Most Popular Rooms in Ohio State Park Lodges

Check into these rooms to create special memories

Located in gorgeous natural settings throughout the state, the Ohio State Park Lodges also feature comfortable accommodations for every type of visitor. Notable rooms range from unique lakeside cabins with private hot tubs to Tudor-style suites furnished with antiques. But which are the most in-demand rooms?

Here are the standout accommodations at the lodges at Deer Creek State Park, Salt Fork State Park, Mohican State Park, and Punderson Manor State Park.

Deer Creek

Private and historic Harding Cabin at Deer Creek State Park is unique among Ohio State Park Lodges. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the former presidential retreat for Warren G. Harding is the perfect place for special occasions, whether for a couple or a small group. Built at the close of WWI, the one-and-a-half-story wood-paneled cabin sleeps eight people with three upstairs bedrooms. A spacious living/dining area, furnished with cabin simplicity, features an inviting stone fireplace as the centerpiece. And a fully outfitted kitchen and an outdoor grill offer options for meal preparation.

Lounge in a rocking chair on the wide screened-in porch with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise over your own private view of quiet Deer Creek Lake. Or curl up by the fireplace or on your private boat dock. Those will be the toughest decisions you’ll make during your stay at this comfortable hideaway in the woods.

Salt Fork

While Ohio’s largest state park, Salt Fork, offers both lodge rooms and cabins, all with scenic views, the cozy chalets (pictured) are the most requested by couples for their secluded locations. You can’t beat the hot tub on an enclosed porch or the gas fireplace in the living area for those cold winter nights. Each chalet also has two bedrooms, a kitchen with cooking supplies, an outdoor picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire rings with benches for comfy gatherings. Couples, and even families, enjoy these rustic retreats as much in winter to hunker down by the fireplace as they do in summer to walk the wooded grounds at sunset.

If you prefer staying in the lodge, consider the spacious Deluxe King/Hospitality Rooms, which each boast a king-size bed, sitting area, walk-out terrace, refrigerator, microwave, and even a wet bar. Whether chalet or lodge, a stay at Salt Fork offers a heavenly respite from the bustle of the world.

Punderson Manor

You don’t have to be royalty to stay in the grand English Tudor-style mansion at Punderson Manor State Park, but you’ll easily feel like it. Kings and queens would feel right at home in the popular individually decorated estate rooms in the original section, especially the elegant and spacious Windsor Suite, so popular with honeymooners.

Estate rooms boast replica antiques and period-style decorations, creating an ambiance of old English elegance. But they also have all the modern conveniences, including coffee makers and in some, even mini-fridges.

The most in-demand room is the gorgeous Windsor Suite. Laid out like a home, the spacious three-room suite has a bedroom, living area and Jacuzzi room with high vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows, and a large gas fireplace. Just the thing for a sovereign seeking a private getaway.

The Mohican State Park Lodge is most often used as a home base for people to enjoy local activities like Malabar Farm or canoeing on the Mohican River. Though guests may spend most of their time outdoors and only return to the rooms for a comfortable night’s sleep, the balconies on all rooms are a popular feature. Watch as deer stroll past your room in the morning or as birds nestle down for the night in the trees just beyond your window. Any of the double, queen or king rooms invite the outside in during your stay and truly help you connect with nature.
