Celebrate December at Salt Fork 

race 

Start the month off right with the Bigfoot 50K Marathon race at Salt Fork on December 4th. Last year we had 195 participants, and we’re hoping to top that this year! If you are a dedicated runner that likes to keep training all year round, this race is for you! Breakfast and lunch will be served at the lodge.

After you run, take a walk with us! Our Steeple Walk begins at St. Benedict Catholic Church, and is a chance for you to visit select area churches to view a variety of architectural styles featured in these beautiful structures. And that’s not all! The season wouldn’t be complete without our New Year's Eve Gospel Sing. This spectacular gospel sing is sponsored by the Guernsey Gospel Jubilee Association, is non-denominational, and is free! Coffee and cold drinks will be provided. This wonderful event is great for the whole family so come early and stay late! 7:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

'Tis the Season to Stay at Maumee Bay!

We’ve been making some improvements to make your stay with us comfy and cozy! New queen size beds have been placed in all of the 2-bedroom and 4-bedroom standard cottages. Therefore, every cottage at Maumee Bay has either a queen size or king bed in the master bedroom! Perfect for snuggling up during the holiday season!

Even better, Winter Carnival is back at Maumee Bay Lodge! Rooms are only $95 on weekdays and $99 on weekends, and everyone gets free admission to the carnival games. This year’s carnival will run from Dec. 26 – December 30, so don’t miss it!

If Santa’s visiting your house and you can’t make it for Christmas, ring in the New Year with us! You can either reserve a room at the regular rates or you can sign up for the limited couple’s package. It’s a great way to stay on the bay!

 

Something's Cooking at Hueston Woods!

Join us for delicious holiday meals created by our very talented chef, Tyler Simpson! Tyler is the Executive Chef at Hueston Woods State Park Lodge and Conference Center and has been with us for three years. He is also the regional ServSafe instructor in Ohio for Xanterra Parks and Resorts.
 

Here is a signature dish of Tyler’s that will be featured on the Christmas Eve Dinner Buffet!


Chicken Marsala with Mushroom Medley
4 portions

4 ea. Chicken Breasts
½ c Flour
2 t Salt
½ t Black Pepper
½ T Butter
1 T Shallots, minced
1 ea. Thyme Sprig
1 ea. Bay Leaf
¼ t Cracked Black Pepper
1 ½ c Mushrooms, sliced (any variety)
½ c Dry Red Wine
10 oz. Chicken Stock
½ c Marsala Wine
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Parsley Chopped for Garnishing

Preheat oven to 350F

Combine the flour, salt and pepper. Dredge the chicken breast in the flour mixture. Sauté in olive oil until each side is nicely browned. Transfer to a baking pan and bake until 165F internally, about 15-17 minutes.
In a shallow pot melt butter. Add shallots, sauté until tender, about 2-3 minutes. Add the thyme, bay leaf, black pepper and mushrooms, sauté until the liquid has cooked out of the mushrooms, about 6-8 minutes.
Add the red wine to deglaze the pan and reduce by half.
Add the chicken stock, bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer for 15 minutes.
Add the marsala wine and bring back to a simmer. Remove the thyme sprig and bay leaf.
Taste to check seasoning and adjust accordingly.
Place the finished chicken breast on a dinner plate and top with 4-5 ounces of the marsala sauce, garnish with parsley and serve immediately.
