Last weekend I attended the AAA Great Vacations Expo in Columbus to work in one of the booths as a volunteer. I brought along my six-year old daughter, Mary Paige, who had a great time at the show.  During her time there, she visited the Ohio Parks booth, where she registered to win a Webkinz. (She is an avid collector). They informed her that they would draw one name every hour.

Well, every hour on the hour she ran to the Ohio Parks booth to see if her name had been drawn. Each time, she returned with a little disappointment, but always smiled about how nice everyone was at the booth.  During the afternoon, she saw several turtles and snakes there which thrilled her to no end! (Her nickname at home is "nature girl," and she loves ALL animals). And, she told everyone she met that she had entered the most important drawing at the show, to win a Webkinz.

Just before 6pm she was visiting a friend in the Coshocton booth, who reminded her it was almost time for another drawing.  So, she bolted to the Ohio Parks booth to discover her name had been "drawn" in the last drawing of the day. She ran back to our booth in record time, absolutely beaming and clutching a reindeer Webkinz. She gave a great acceptance speech of how she had never won anything and that she would keep it forever! Needless to say, all the booths around us gave her a huge round of applause for her big win. Luck? Maybe. Persistance? Most probably.

Regardless of how, I wanted to express my sincere thanks for giving Mary Paige a great memory of the day, and for taking the time at the top of every hour to visit with her and answer her many questions. She made a card for the people who worked the booth that Saturday, and I hope you are able to find out who they were and pass it on to them. This "nature girl" is likely to be a fan of ODNR for many years to come, and we are appreciative of your efforts.
